Genre: Retro Compilation
Some things should just stay buried and never resurface. This collection of over 40 Atari 2600 game “hits” shows the very early days of gaming, where video games were extremely limited by their hardware, but that doesn’t mean they had to be limited in gameplay, but the problem is that they are.
The main game menu allows you to choose your game, read the manuals and view the boxes of the respective game. All games are emulated properly (unsurprisingly) but the graphics look washed out when stretched. Background music has been added to supposedly spice up the games, but it doesn’t help. Most games just require you to press the D-Pad in different directions to achieve a certain goal such as a high score and that’s all the gameplay there is to it. Sure, there are some slightly more complex games such as Pitfall!, but you’ll be unlikely to spend more than a minute on these games unless you’re a true fan.
Some of the games have unlockables, but this is little incentive to spend time with this collection. Even at $20 this collection is very hard to justify. For Atari 2600 fans only.
