The sports collection Wii Sports outperformed the latest Zelda title in the latest sales data from Famitsu.com.
Famitsu.com this week reported that Wii Sports sold 176,880 units in its first two days at retail. By comparison, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sold 145,068 units in the same period.
In addition, Zelda was outranked by the casual offering Wii Play which sold 171,888 units.
The stellar performance of casual titles on Wii is indicative of the machine's ability to attract consumers who may not normally play video games.
The strategy to offer casual fare on video game hardware has met with success on Nintendo's DS handheld, which is currently the best-selling handheld in worldwide markets.
Rounding out the top five titles in Japan are WarioWare: Smooth Moves at No. 4 and Swing Golf Pangya at No. 5.
