I bought the Logitech Playgear pocket about a year ago and it works great, one of the best cases I have seen for the PSP. Made of clear polycarbonate, the case looks, and most importantly, feels tough. The inner walls of the case are clothed in rubber, providing a firm grip that holds your console nicely in place. If you're justifying your purchase soley in terms of its ability to offer protection, it's pretty obvious that the PlayGear Pocket will serve your requirement. The case also has several cut-outs that allow you to access the "L" and "R" buttons, the power and WI-FI switches, and the earphones and charger jacks at the four corners of your PSP. The top of the case also opens to 270 degrees and allows the case to be used as a stand. If your feeling creative, just print off your favorite pic and place it between the clear polycarbonate and the inner liner for a nice graphic touch.
Only bad thing I can say about the case is that you don't have any access to the UMD door while it is in the case. But for the protection, this is only a minor detail. Also with the case fitting tight to the PSP, you won't be able to use the larger aftermarket control nubs and still be able to close the lid of the case. All in all this was the best $20 I could spend on upgrading my PSP. My next purchase might be the Gamestop binder that is also in this post to use more as a travel bag to keep all my stuff together.

what i don't like about the playgear pocket is that there is no mechanism to lock the psp in the case while it's open, in case i drop the case when it's not latched, cause then my psp would fall out.

Go with a play gear pocket, and get a plastic screen protector... my friends psp went flying when he jumped off my couch not knowing his psp was in his lap... He opened it up, not one scratch, nothing... he uses the play gear pocket, just get that one...
btw, if u get the stealth case, if u drop, it doesnt really protect it. So, screw that imo

I use a case from Core Cases (http://corecases.com/Sony-PSP-Cases-c-3.html) as I already had one of their Ipod cases - highly recommend it. Very tough and access to all switches and sockets. Excellent service from Core as well.

i got this joytech case that screws into those pretty much useless holes on top that nobody uses because they dont know what its for, and then it flips up when i want to play, and it works pretty good and it is very sturdy... but the back of your psp is exposed and unprotected...
