Hello all. First of all, let me tell you guys the story. I was at my girlfriends house today, and I decided to downgrade my firmware back to 1.5, since thats where most of the good homebrew is at. I left my PSP sitting on the desk while it was downgrading, and my girlfriend's little brother went in the office and picked it up and started playing with it. He reset it while it was still downgrading. I now know this because he admitted it to me today. I cant make her pay for it, because what kind of arrogant jackass would I be then? So, I know that my PSP is bricked, because I keep getting the classic black screen with the green light that turns off after 20 seconds. And Im not asking for an unbricker. However, what I am asking though is if I buy a new motherboard on eBay or somewhere, will I have to solder any wires or anything to get it in? Because I have no experience with soldering, and I dont know anyone that does. It seems that the motherboards are just plug ins, but Im not sure, and just wanted to check before I blew $50 or more on a new motherboard. And another thing...If I cant get my hands on a new motherboard, and have to resort to the Undiluted Platinum(Prepare for stupid question following), is there any POSSIBLE way that I could get the guys at Gamestop or somewhere to install it for me? Because as I said, I dont want to buy something and then break it because I dont know how to solder. Thanks all!

P.S.-I would just send it back to Sony, but warranty is far dead and since I was downgrading using homebrew, Sony wouldnt touch it anyways. I now know why they are against homebrew. They are against it because when homebrew is allowed, mistakes and bricks are inevitable, and they probably get hundreds of PSP owners every day demanding that they fix their PSP because it was bricked from a homebrew mistake.

I didn't think the downgrade or even upgrade process took longer then 5 minutes s I'm already shocc-d about that. As long as you using the real firmware then. but most likely they will send you bacc with a firmware 2.81 or higher and possible changed your mother board.

Thank you for your response, but Im not planning on sending it to Sony, Im planning on buying a motherboard on eBay, and installing it myself. I doubt Sony would even touch it, since I was using a homebrew downgrader when it was bricked. And I know, it is a short period of time for the downgrade. But apparantly, it doesnt take her little brother long to tear something up. And now I have a new question...If I do somehow get the motherboard, or whatever I do to get it unbricked...If I put the memory stick in it that was in it when it bricked, will it rebrick?

I don't know anything about replacing the motherboard, I've never had to try it (thankfully).

About the memory stick, it should be fine to use it again when you get your PSP fixed.
If you want to be doubly sure, just use a USB card reader and format the memory stick.
shadowfaxframe
Alright, Ill try formatting the memory stick before I put it back in. Anyone know any places other than eBay that I can get a good motherboard to work, because the ones on eBay are more than Id like to pay, and ship from Hong Kong. Thanks all!

From memory theres a small bit of soldering to do and its rather fiddly to. Its also a "slip-and-break-it" kinda thing. Although my freind sent his bricked psp back to sony and it came back with everything the same except it was running 2.82 firmware. He just said he wasnt donwgrading.

The best places to look for soldering are rinky-dink looking game repair shops. Im not sure if there would be any soldering but open up your psp and take a look... just search for how to disasemble it on google. Sorry about your psp mate.

Alright guys, I have the plan. Ill just tell Sony that I loaned my PSP to a friend, and without my knowing, he ran homebrew on my PSP, thus bricking it. Its a lie and Ill go to hell, but hey, Ill hopefully have my PSP back:D

Or you could just use the real story, but just change "reset it while it was still downgrading" to "while it was upgrading".
They'd probably like that one a bit more - I left it upgrading to 2.81 to play my GTA:VCS UMD when ... etc.
shadowfaxframe
Well, I called them and told them that my "friend" installed homebrew "without" me knowing. The dude on the phone said that I would probably get a replacement, since the homebrew was running while my "friend" installed it and bricked my PSP. Then he told me to send it in with proof of purchase(Now to find that damned WalMart receipt), and they would have some people that would decide whether my claim is viable or not. So, hopefully it will work out, thanks all!
deathBquick
sorry i can't offer any help, but hopefully it all works out.
Speks
So what happened? Did they replace it? Hope they replaced your PSP. smile.gif
shadowfaxframe
Well, I found my proof of purchase, Ill send it out tommorow. Ill tell you guys if they decide to replace it. Thanks for all the help!

Good luck.

This may be a moot point seeing how you said that the psp is out of warranty, but if and when you do call them and they ask you which memory card you were using, make sure you say it was a sony memory card. All companies will use the excuse of not using their own product accessories in their products as being a result of their machine malfunctioning. Again sorry to hear about your bricked psp and good luck to you.
shadowfaxframe
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They replaced it, and sent it out yesterday. Whats odd is even though they state that they only return systems to you via regular ground service, theyre returning it to me by 3 day select UPS! So, since they sent it out yesterday on a 3 day deal, that should mean that Ill get it Monday, the day before I fly out of Florida! Hoorah! I cant believe theyre replacing it, but Im sure not complaining.

P.S.-Thanks for all of your help guys, because of you Im getting a new PSP for free!
jdm_ist
Don't get your hopes up, though. They're more than likely sending you a TA-082.
shadowfaxframe
Who cares. I dont plan on using homebrew anymore anyways.

lmao luckz !
shadowfaxframe
Whats really weird is that Ive taken the warranty seal off before, but I put it back exactly the way it was. However, if you looked close enough, you could see that it had been removed before. I guess I got uber-lucky.
cupid_stunt
thats pretty good, but u cant downgrade anymore so hopefully it wont happen again
shadowfaxframe
Hehe...got it in the mail yesterday. Brand spankin new!
kkysnoopy
Good for your .... a brand new psp after u brick it. Bravo bravo
