Spam is against the rules, but some sites have palces where it is ok, does this site have?? I know other sites that have areas where one can let off their urge....
From allsorts111 (Head moderator):- NOTE: I HAVE CHANGED THE TOPIC TITLE.
allsorts111
Nov 3 2006, 01:43 PM
would that still be the same as people actually spamming. As far as i know its when people try to advertise or get on other people nerves.- No one would read any topics in the 'spam centre' anyways. The forum does not suffer from spam it suffers from anything but. Noobs who dont search. A spam bot- hence all the posts about medicine and 'animal porn'.
Nice idea though.
no, if we allowed a "spot" where people could spam, that would just be dumb. if you guys understood the way the search engines rank pages and seo placement, you definatly wouldn't want it on your webpage either.

Nov 3 2006, 02:42 PM
It would be for advetisments or people to read, just a place to kill time and get yur posts up, I seem them b4 and they went ok (Normal rules still applied).. But if u dont want one.. What this about search engine rankings??
allsorts111
Nov 4 2006, 03:30 AM

Can you post bullsh!t there?? Anyways, a spamorama is wuite useless as if you are going to get yur psots up why not do it in mesages that make sense or have a point?? Unless you want extra, but if everyone just posted spam to get their ranking up unfairly, then you might as well just give them a higher ranking, but that defeat the purpose the ranking system...
Or put ads in your sig like Optimus Prime

I think people should not advertise full stop Ive deleted like three ads this past few days. Oh and if anyone links to another forum in their Sig that has no benefit to any topic i will suspend them for three days.
adw888
Nov 6 2006, 12:40 PM
I agree with allsorts111, advertising and spam is really annoying.
I was closing the spam topics to begin with but it's cleaner to delete them.
allsorts111
Nov 6 2006, 12:53 PM
Thanks for agreeing Adw888. Ive already suspended someones account for three days and removed their posting privileges for ten days. The only way we can realistically stop and remove spam is by imposing higher and greater risks to those who advertise or spam. However, the problems not with genuine users like me or you or NCS or Real G187 or tim123 and jdm_ist is with people who make one post (IE create accounts to spam) of spam or advertising.
Anyways, its always nice to see what peoples ideas are on spam so if anyone else wants to make comments on this subject post here. Hundreds of minds are better than Ten.
RealG187
Nov 6 2006, 01:38 PM
So where can we make comments?? ANyways a spam room is both a good and bad idea, its yut decision, it allows users to do it in a controlled environment, but it also allows them to unfairly boost ranking, etc....
allsorts111
Nov 6 2006, 02:00 PM
Every idea has its negative and positive effects. Yet, on this occasion they negative issues out wight the positive impact. People spam to get peoples attention, to annoy or to advertise (as Ive previously said) people would not spam in a 'spam room' if no one reads the comments.
Post you ideas here.
Thanks for a response, good idea.

Either Post them here, in this topic, i will bump it up ever now and again so that ideas will be seen. I read things i dont care about... do i care that people with 2.71 can downgrade- i still read it. Do i care about FIFA 07- i still read the review.

allsorts111
Nov 7 2006, 10:58 AM
If you want to know if what you are posting is spam or not, can and/or would it be interpreted in any of these ways:- (Does your post)-
1) Help or change other peoples opinion,
2) Generate ideas- ie. ways to find solutions
3) Gives answers to questions already raised
4) Ask relevant questions
5) Influence the forum in any way
6) In any way shape of form does not advertise another website, a product your personally selling, or bring up a subject that's not relevant.
The off topic section is for those who might place comments or raise debates in other areas such as the generals PSP discussion area that has nothing to do with PSP's or any topic UN-PSP related. So, in turn may help to reduce spam, that could be classed as spam in any area but the off-topic section.

Okay we have established a Spam section would be inappropriate. Anyone else have anymore ideas. Please suggest other ideas. I think there should be a code that has to be imputed every time a new account is being made- to stop automatic sign ups. What do you think. Many other sites have implemented it.

SOme forms have, but it also makes it harder to PSP uses to use the internet as you have to remember the code and then open the on screen keyboard and type it, and typing in with the PSP is really hard....
allsorts111
Nov 8 2006, 02:21 PM
I suppose but then we should find out what percentage of PSP users surf this site regularly with their PSP system compared to PC based users. If the PC number are significantly higher it could be a possibility. Or alternatively create a second PSP friendly version.

I second the un-machine-readable image verification codes for signing up new accounts.
That should stop most of the spam because most spam posts are made by accounts on their first post, which are probably just bots.
About it being difficult to use on the PSP, it would only be for sign-ups so it would only be difficult once.
And the codes only need to be 3 characters long, it shouldn't be too difficult to remember 3 characters.

We can reduce spam by taking away the thing where you have to post before you can download something from certain threads... It just leads to everyone saying "thanks" or some variation of that. Just a suggestion :/
