Just having a look at the Registration page on yourpsp.co.nz, and it lists the model numbers to select which one you've got.

It has;

PSP-1000K
through
PSP-1007K

Now, I was pretty sure that 1000 was the original Japanese PSP, 1001 was the US one and 1002 the Euro one. I wonder why there's so many?

Different release countries?

Those who have bought a PSP from EU/AUS/NZ, could you post your model number & where you're from?

Well mine is a PSP-1002k

and I'm in Perth Australia.

Sony must have had a bunch of older stock with 1.52
so they threw in a software upgrade on the demo umd with 2.00.

there must be a reason....

There are no PSPs released anywhere with 2.0 firmware built in. All the PSPs released on Sept. 1st were 1002K models with 1.52 firmware (until evidence proves otherwise). They just come with the 2.0 upgrade disc which was obviously quicker to produce.
