Officially, Sony aimed to ship 2 million PlayStation 3 units by the end of the year and 6 million by March 2007. Unfortunately, a Blu-ray parts shortage might force Sony to abandon such dreams.
According to a Bloomberg report, Sony is already changing their PR strategy and announce that the above-mentioned launch figures are far from being a sure thing:
“The honest answer is it's more of a target'' for PlayStation 3 shipments, Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said yesterday in an interview. “Clearly we've had production issues.''
The PlayStation 3 will be released this November, but only in the US and Japan. Sony has decided to focus on these two markets also due to Blu-ray parts shortages and delay the world-wide release until March next year.
