Speaking in an DS Lite Retail Guide that recently came bundled with trade weekly MCV, Nintendo handheld product manager James Honeywell spoke about how DS sales compare with PSP.

"Up until the end of last year sale between the two formats were fairly evenly matched, with DS slightly outselling PSP," he said. "Since the beginning of the year, with our stellar line-up of releases, we have pushed our sales through the roof. Then with the fantastic launch of DS Lite in June we have begun to pull further and further away.

"Right now, with the combination of DS and DS Lite we are outselling the competition by a ratio of 3:1. This increase in hardware sales has also driven an increase in DS software sales, moving ahead of PSP in the total number of units and also, more interestingly, we have now seen that the same third party titles are selling more on the DS than on other formats.

"We are seeing publishers start to rethink their strategies switching development from other formats to the successful DS platform and, more importantly, creating bespoke titles that fully utilise the DS features rather than simply porting content without taking advantage of the great things you can do on DS."

We're loving the DS at the moment and are already beginning to lose sleep over the huge anticipation for The Legend of Zelda:

BUt as far as portable system goes PSP got my vote...... same with PS3 VS Wii I think the PS3 just edges out over the Wii

ds lite is more portable than a psp. I believe that the dsl outsells the psp. Just look at the thing.
whiplash
PSP will never ever ever ever ever be worse than a ds. Thats a FACT!
thanato
maybe a ds, not a dsl.
Pluribus Unum
I have both a PSP and a DS Lite. I love them both, but I love my PSP more. Far more features and even though not as many games, the games are far superior to the DS games in both graphic quality and length (on average). However, the DS is also very fun with the touch screen and simplicity that takes it to other levels that the PSP can't touch. So, I guess the both have their pluses.

I just wish the PSP sold better.

ooh man the 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000th topic, but still the psp is better thats a friggin fact look at all the things you can do with a psp. and about the sales , since the psp is hell alot cheaper the digits will change biggrin.gif

both console have its pro and cons, ds is for games only cause i c no other function it can possiblly be used for unless tossing it and hitting someone counts, the psp have more functions but seriously it needs some titles that doesnt make the owner sick.

dont mean to be a DS basher. but i dont think sales really justifies the better console.

if u compare the qualitiy of games psp is much better, DS is for grandparents and very young kids.

This is an old topic that shouldnt have been brought back.

Anyway to settle this, the ds in no way owns the psp. For Sony to have sold 1 psp for every 2 ds' (1:2 ratio) that is a success as Nintendo was the handheld king. To be able to enter the market and sell that well is a feat in itself. Others have tried and failed miserably against Nintendo. Sony is the first to actual succeed.

They both win. End of story.
