Answer to the ' how do i find games that work on 1.5 firmware'... okay thats simple any game (well most) all you need is to install devhook 0.46 and load devhook and you can load ISO's/cso's and you can also emulate 2.71- so you can play all the most recent games (almost all).
This topic should help you with loading your games through usb,- just remove the spaces and copy/paste it into your browser, http:// forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view. cfm/369769
there are two spaces between http:// and forum and the other two spaces are between view. and cfm/
good luck.

You guys are extremly friendly and helpful on this forum

Sadly the link doesnt work for the forum. Is it a tutorial to run iso from a mac through the usb using a mac? I found a tutorial for it but it was for a windos comp which involved using exe files?

Once i have the devhook 0.46 where do i put it on the psp directory?

Thanks
emanon333
The aftedawn forum on how to run iso from your comp is for pc which involves .exe's, which mac's can't run

??!?! There must be a mac user out there who can help me to play some of these games i have. I'm having a night in and would love to just spend a night with my psp, i know it sounds sad but unless you guys help then i'll be doing nothing

I'm thinking of going out to get a bigger memorystick because it doesn't look like i'll be able to play the ISO's on my 1.5 PSP through my mac.

Can someone tell me where to get a copy of devhook 0.46 that is legite and exactly what to do with it when i have it?

Thanks
emanon333
I've just been doing some reading about devhook 0.46.

The process to get this thing working is unreal.

Do you have to do it everytime you wanna load an iso or is it just the once.

There's also no program to extract data from the eboot.pbp file for FW 2.71 on a mac???

Please guys some help would be great. I'm so close to playing a shed load of free ISO's

So have you managed to get DevHook set up or not?
It's very easy, just get a "Full" package which includes the firmware files:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PKFWBU7C
(be warned I haven't tried this particular package, as I used the Ultimate Installer EXE (PC only))
Copy the two folders ("dh" and "PSP") to the root of your memory stick (PSP).

Then get a DevHook Mod which supports USB, and install on PSP, I use Wedge's VSHEX DLX Mod:
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=26673
This time just copy the folder "dh" (in "MS_ROOT" in the archive) to the root of your PSP, letting it overwrite any files already there.

Then get a PC-(Mac?-)side app that supports USBHOSTFS:
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php...;mforum=irshell
Install and run this on your Mac (I don't know anything about Macs but it should be easy).

Hope this helps.

Well, i would advise you to 'invest' in a 1GB stick or more. Say you download 10 games look at the facts;-
average UK game price£30
estimate US game price (not sure) $30-50?
So it would cost £300 in the UK and about $400-500 in the US, thats if the games do retail at £30 some here are £50! So your PSP is already paid for.
Then over the course of another few week you download another 5-10 ISO's/CSO's- thats the mem stick. Simple- although its all in one go! (it will save time a hassle)
Don't forget to convert the ISO's to Cso's as they are smaller. And you may even use a rip kit too.
Regarding my previous post- sorry i never read your full question, if i find anything then i will let you know.

I would agree with allsorts111 that in the long term a larger memory stick is worthwhile.
I bought a 4GB SanDisk memory stick for my PSP and it has been fantastic; at the moment I have 5 ISOs, 2 movies, some music, and loads of homebrew (including many emulators and their ROMs) all on my memory stick at the same time.
It was around £90 at the time from here (MobyMemory UK):
http://www.mobymemory.com/PRO-DUO.asp
They're now only £80 for 4GB and £22 for 1GB.
In my opinion, getting a bigger memory stick would probably be more convenient than having to plug into your iBook to play an ISO.

Yep, I have 2 2gb cards. One has 6 PSP games and SNES and Genesis emulators with 6-7 games on each. My other card has 321 songs and 146 custom tracks for GTA.

My two 'buddies' lol, thanks for agreeing with me lol! Anyway, back to the question i obtained during the release of the PlayStation portable a 1GB Sony memory card for £40 and whats more thats was the price of one game! So, now i have at least 30 CSO's and about 4 originals. So using what i posted above- my memory stick has saved me well over £500

Hey man, i installed everything you said to install i got up to the USBHOSTFS for the mac but i have no idea what to do with the files in it? Any advice?

Also, with this process allow me to play ISO's from a bigger memory stick or would i have to install a load of other software??!?!

... On that note, what is the process from playing ISO's off your memory stick? Is it just me or are all these processes really really involved. I still have no clue what i'm doing, i just have a vague idea.

Anyway, i hope you can help me out with this ISO through my USB cuz its annoying me soooooo much...

If anyone wants to give me a hand i'm on msn savvas_fellas@hotmail.com

I can't explain my frustration with this. Although i'm grateful that i managed to downgrade my psp from 2.6 to 1.5 wink.gif

So you've installed DevHook and the Mod. Have you tried to run it yet? Do you get to the 2.71 XMB?

About USBHOSTFS for Mac, try this forum thread:
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=22889
It seems like you need the right libusb for your Mac, but as I've said, I've never had a Mac so I really don't know how it works (is it like Linux and you have to compile it?).

This process works on bigger memory sticks. But you will have to do it again once to get that stick set up; don't worry, it's much easier the second, third and fourth times (I know from experience).

Copy the ISO to the "\ISO\" folder on your memory stick.
Load up your PSP as usual, go to "Game", "Memory Stick", and DevHook should be an option, press X to load it. In the config screen, press confirm (X or O) on "Start" to run DevHook.
When DevHook loads, it should say "VSHEX DLX Mod 0.99 RC3" at the bottom of the screen in a blue rectangle, this means that the Mod has also loaded.
Press the Home button, you should see something come up at the bottom of the screen saying "NO DISC", press the left and right D-pad buttons to switch between ISOs, then press X to mount one. Once it's mounted, press X again to load it. (Remember you need a real UMD in the drive for DevHook to run, but this can be any UMD, like the Demo Disc).
emanon333
I'm not sure what you mean when you say have i loaded the devhook 2.71 XMB...

I've copied the files over but i haven't actually ran anything from my psp as i'm a little put off by all this flas talk (which i still don't understand) and briking it.

I tried to run the dev hook installer once and it gave me a error message of: Can't find DATA.PSAR in top folder of memory stick or UMD with updater

Now, as i understand this is a file that is extracted from the EBOOT.PBP for 2.71, which i have, i just don't know how to extract the .PSAR from th .PBP file. Again the mac is making this difficult for me to do....
emanon333
It's obviously a tad tricky so i'll just ask that someone can help me set everything up for when i go and get a new memory card, which should be today.

I have copied the "dh" & "PSP" folders from the "Devhook 0.46 FULL" folder.

So then, i tried to run "devhook Firmware Installer" from my memory stick to see what happens and i t gave me this message - Can't find DATA.PSAR in top folder of memory stick or UMD with updater

I have to apologise for my incompetence, it is quite tricky in my defense. Especially for us Mac users....;(
adw888
That DevHook Full obviously wasn't the right one, sorry.
I couldn't point you to the normal one I use because it is a ".exe" (won't work on Macs).

But what I could do was extract the files from it, and apply the VHSEX DLX Mod myself for you:
http://rapidshare.de/files/32649537/DevHoo...99_RC3.rar.html

To use this, firstly delete all the files you have copied to your PSP, or better still, format your memory stick (unless there's stuff you want to keep on it of course).
Then copy the folders in the archive "dh", "ISO" and "PSP" to the root of your memory stick.
Now you should be able to run "DevHook 0.46" from your PSP, not "DevHook Firmware Installer", which was wrong. Sorry for wasting your time with that.

I assume you mean the folder on your iBook right? In that case, it needs to be the one you set up USBHOSTFS for.
Then when you load DevHook, press Home, then Triangle until it says "MS and USB" or "USB Only".
Then you should be able to browse the folder on your iBook using the left and right D-pad buttons.
If it's the one on the memory card "\ISO\", then skip the part about pressing Triangle.

Hopefully that's all you need to know.

Use the link I gave in my post above and copy the "dh", "PSP" and "ISO" folders to the root of your PSP memory stick.
Then load DevHook, the Mod should load as well.
Press Home, then press Triangle until the bottom right corner says "MS and USB".
Again, make sure the ISOs are in the folder specified to USBHOSTFS.

I'll give you a break for now mate...

But keep looking out because i'm sure i'll need your help in the next 24 hours wink.gif
emanon333
So finally, i have figured out how to switch between 2.71 and 1.50.

So if i want to add one of the iso/cso onto my memory stick for the psp, i imagine i simply put it in the iso folder on the psp then run devhook and switch to 2.71 mode. Once i'm in 2.71 how do you load the game up?

Also, when your running devhook it says:
HOMEu:L/R Change ISO (in XMB)

but these do nothing, i ask because you said to select HOME when running devhook then to press trinagle for the usb mode...

P.S what is XMB

So much for your 24 hour break

When you press HOME (in 2.71), do you see anything come up at the bottom of the screen?
If you used the second link I gave you you should do.
XMB is the PSP system software interface, the thing that has "Photo", "Video", "Music", "Game", etc.

When i use that second link it doesn't work.

I replace the "dh" folder and when i try to run devhook it says it cannot load it? I think the second link may also be another broken linked file. So i had to revert back to taking the "dh" file on my psp back to its original state from that latest link you extracted for me.

Oh the confusion.

OK, let's try again.
Use this link: http://rapidshare.de/files/32788359/DevHoo...X_Mod_v1.00.rar
I made it myself and have used the exact files in it on my PSP and it works perfectly.
Hopefully this should do it, just delete your "dh" folder and the DevHook sounding folders in the "PSP\GAME\" folder (or format your memory stick), then copy the three folders in "MS_ROOT" in the archive to the root of your memory stick ("dh", "PSP", "ISO").
Copy your ISOs to "\ISO\" (if you want to play from memory card and not USB), and you should be all set.
Post here how it goes (how far do you get? into DevHook? VSHEX DLX Mod loaded? fully working!?).
emanon333
Everything is also ok as far as i can tell.

I can load up 2.71.

The only thing now is i'm trying to figure out how to play games from my mac through my usb. If anyone out there that has a mac could they please walk me through how to do it once i have devhook and vshex loaded?

adw888 - Thanks for the upload its great. If i pick up a memory card 2morrow. Do i -

1/put my iso in the iso folder of my memory stick.

2/ Load up my psp and run 2.71 (go to start in the devhook menu without playing around with any other settings)

3/Once devhook has loaded into the emulated 2.71 what do i do? I'll ask you tell me in "Stupid child" terms as i'll probably screw it up otherwise.

Its been the best part of a week now and i'm still trying to unlock all the secrets to this thing. Hopefully i will have it nailed 2morrow....

p.s should i be concerned about the clock speed, what should i be setting it to?

You've got 1/ and 2/ spot on.
For 3/, once the emulated 2.71 has loaded, you press the HOME button, and you should see the VSHEX Mod in action at the bottom of the screen (it should also say "NO DISC", "M-STICK" and "222" or similar).
While the VSHEX Mod is still visible (it times out after 5-10 seconds), press the Right (or Left) D-pad key until you see the name of the ISO you want to run (it should come up where it said "NO DISC").
Then press the X button to mount the ISO, you should see the ISO load, as it looks like a UMD has been inserted. If it doesn't mount, make sure you actually have a real UMD in your PSP.
Then press the X button again to load the ISO, as you would if it was a UMD.
And that should be that.

Well, you're almost done now; what made it hard was that you have a Mac (most of the install apps are written for Win32).

By default it is set to 222Mhz, and that is fine for most games.
In some cases you may experience slowdowns, in that case, you can change it to 333MHz.
To do this, when DevHook loads, press HOME to bring up the VSHEX Mod.
Then press SELECT to toggle the CPU speeds, keep pressing it until it says 333MHz.
