Today Atari officially made public what has been suspected for some time:
TimeShift will be coming to Xbox and Xbox 360. The title is a first-person
shooter developed by Sabre Interactive that allows players to stop, slow,
speed-up, and reverse time.

The game was first announced for the PC in January of this year and the
project has been progressing steadily ever since. We were treated to a huge
amount of footage at E3 in May and most recently at an Atari Press event
earlier this month. Producer Kyle Peschel was on hand to walk us through the
unique mechanics of TimeShift and reveal a few more of its technical
achievements.
The game stars a test pilot named Michael Swift who has been hired by the
Government to test two pieces of technology. The first is a time machine
called Chronomicon, which is used by the protagonist to plant a probe in the
early part of the 20th century. In order to make the journey, Swift is
equipped with a piece of equipment called the Quantum suit that keeps his
atomic structure intact while time traveling. Unfortunately for him, when he
returns to present time, reality has been altered to suit the will of a
fascist dictator named Krone. It turns out that the mysterious villain has
been manipulating history to place himself in power as a god-like dictator.
Other than Krone, Swift is the only man alive that has knowledge of the time
shift, making him a dangerous enemy of the state.
Unlike other time manipulation engines, this game doesn't slow the player
down along with their surroundings. When time stops, Swift and his attacks
move at a normal rate allowing players to wreak havoc on an environment at a
separate pace from his enemies. This simple principle has some very
interesting applications to gameplay. For example, when time is stopped,
fire has no effect on Swift and all projectile weapons float in mid-air.
Frozen enemies can be stripped of their weapons, and when the flow of time
returns to normal they look bewilderingly at their empty hands. The power to
manipulate events in this fashion is derived from the Quantum suite, which
has a naturally regenerating power source.
