Dark_AleX has released DAX ZISO Loader v0.62 BETA For PSP today, and it includes USB support- as illustrated in the picture, you can now store a plethora of PSP iSOs and run them without conventional PSP Memory Stick size limitation...

From the Read Me file:
DAX ZISO Loader v0.62 BETA For PSP

Dark_AleX fixed an important bug of the UMDEmulator core, which is the cause of some games working with Fastloader and not working with UMDEmulator/DAX ZiSO. Full Changelog:

v0.62. May, 18

- A bug originally from the UMDEMULATOR core has been found. UMDEMULATOR didn't handle the case where the string pointed by the parameter file (sceIoOpen, sceIoOpenAsync), or dev (sceIoDevctl) was not aligned to 4 bytes, causing an exception when that happened. That caused incompatibility with some games (Coded Arms, Mahjong Fight and maybe others), and some homebrews (FileAssistant++, Irshell and maybe others). Fixed. People, try again all the games that worked with Fastloader and not with UMDEmu to see if they work now. Thanks a lot to the person who discovered the bug, well done!!

- Now DAX ZiSO PRX's and default backgrounds are in ms0:/DAXZISO. Also, moved from newlib to psp sdk libc to reduce the size of the executable.

- Added an "experiment" to play games via USB in Direct Load, MPHGL Direct, and RUNUMD Direct modes. This need files from PSP Link, which are not included. (you only need usbhostfs.prx in the psp part, and a driver and usbhostfs_pc in your computer, and edit the daxziso.ini file).

This is a tool that lets you load isos (backed-up from your original UMD's) compressed in DAX format (a custom format, compressor and decompressor are included).

Requirements:

- 1.50 firmware

- UMDEMULATOR 0.8c (optional, daxziso already incorporates in his core the UMDEMULATOR core)

- Optional: RUNUMD (for some 2.XX games) A modified version of MPHGL is included.

This is Great!

Awesome breakthrough, maybe with this someone can figure out how to get a portable harddrive to work through the USB as well. Or maybe streaming the ISO's over wifi.
MooSieFate
over wifi would rock if you could set up the ftp and have games at hotspots.

This is SWEET!

How do the games work tho?
That should be the big question...

Do they run normal speed? A few hiccups?
Details ppl!

And wi-fi gaming? well... would be kinda slow to have that since it goes at max 200-300kb/sec but USB transfers at like 15mb/sec...

Untold Legends 2 does not work with direct Load use RunUMD direct instead.

Also, i guess this would mean that you can now boot from portable harddrives that run through the USB. Only thing is that you would have to get a decent length USB cable to put the HD in your pocket (cuz i doubt anyone wants it hanging off the psp in mid-air)
Lamario
I can't get this to work at all. I followed all the steps several times. Whenever I connect it, Daxziso dosen't respond, and the pc app says: "error, invalid magic 4f53492f". When I disconnect the usb cable, daxziso responds, but when I plug it in again, I get the same error message on pc. Anybody able to help me out?
mr.gonzito
could this possibly lead to dumping umd's straight to the pc through the usb instead of dumping to the memory stick? maybe, maybe not. just a thought.
Keremeny
this looks awesome

one small problem... when i launch the app i can only see "Run UMD", and no ISOs on my computer. i followed all the steps perfectly, and even did it twice. i believe i have found the problem...

in the step when i go to launch " usbhostfs_pc.exe ", it firstly flashed up with a command prompt, quickly displayed some text and then vanished, and after 5 mintues of trying to time print screen right, i finally got this:

so i did a search, deleted all but the most recent one (which was infact in my usbhostfs_pc folder) and then when i launched " usbhostfs_pc.exe " i got this instead

and it kept doing that "found 3 busses" thing for ages... help! what do i do! everything else is working fine, i installed the driver no problems, when i launch the app on my PSP while the USB is connected, i even hear the "device plugged in" da-ding noise.

any help would really be appreciated, ive slaved over this damn thing for hours T_T

EDIT:

found a site that told me how to do it happy.gif

the lodare v0.62 get here...
DAX ZISO Loader v0.62

the tutorial pack get here...
DAX ZISO Loader USB Tutorial Pack For PSP

only thing is u need 0.62 before u can use the pack

note: following text copied from what i believe to be a french site:

Exclamation TUTORIAL : ISO's via USB using DAXLOADER!
Ok heres a tutorial for playing isos/dax games through the usb cable.

With this u can have millions of isos on ur psp, just look here, but this is a bit extreme lol
http://www.freewebtown.com/dragonuk/snap0004.JPG

NOTE: Make sure you install DAXZISO Loader v0.62 before you use this package.

(All this below is included in the README, in the download package below. Also the download package below has all the files you need)

Thanks to dark_alex for lots of stuff
Dark_Alex what you think of the tutorial. Better than what u told me

1. The folder "DAXZISO" needs to go on your psp, put it in the root, then click overwrite.
This folder has the usbhost.prx in it, and the .ini is configured to run the usbhost.prx, When you are not using the usb to play games, change the .ini driver values to null.

2. After you've copied that folder to your psp, the other 2 folders have to go on your pc. Copy them to somewhere.

3. Now load up dax with the usb cable connected, windows will say found new device.

4. You will then have to click manually install, and click where it says include this path in the search. Click browse and tell it to search in the PC_Driver folder. After this is done it should find a driver and install it.

5. Now your psp has the driver installed correctly.

6. Now copy the file cygwin1.dll to your windows/system32 directory.

7. Now run the usbhostfs_pc.exe in the USBHOST_PCSERVER folder. It should start and say:

USBHostFS <c> Tyranid 2k6
Connected to device.

If it comes up connected to device when dax is running and the usb cable is in, then that means you've set it up right.

8. Now you have to put your isos in the USBHOST_PCSERVER/ISO folder.

9. For dax to refresh the list to view your isos, you have to go into game options and then click back. to go back to the iso list.

10. The isos on your pc should appear in dax, but they will be mixed up with the isos on your psp memorycard. so its best to call the isos on your pc something like game_usb.iso
with a usb tag or something.

11. Now select your game, use a direct load option, and then your game should start and play

PLEASE NOTE: This is what dark_alex told me, but i don't really believe it but anyway heres what he said:

Some people have reported that for unknown reasons, there is more chance of an iso working if you put one of the last letters like "v" before the name: for example, Tales.iso -> vTales.iso.

Well done.
fatKidsLast
So anyone get it working with a thumbdrive, I got it working on my computer, but I'll have to go buy a cable to use a thumbdrive.

Only bit of trouble I had was modifying the .ini file, when it says "blahblahblah" you must include the quotes.
Keremeny
no i dont think u could get it running on a thumb drive - remember how u gotta launch that command prompt thing and leave it open? u need drivers and all that etc. so i dont think ud b able 2 do that
tsunami643
Wait, if I'm understanding this properly, you have to constantly have the usb cable connected to the PSP to play the games. Therefore, it basically defeats the purpose of having a PlayStation Portable
Keremeny
true - the USB must be connected @ all times

false - can you play GTA: LCS on ur PC? or untold legends? or good ol crash tag team racing? no...

*also*

most people dont have +1 GB mem sticks, and THUG2, for instanse, is a 1.2GB iso file, thus rendering anyone without a 2 GB stick unable to play it.

id much rather have this than having to copy an ISO over, then back when im done, then a new one over... makes the process much more simple.
foo
cool can't wait to try this thanks for the great info.

now all i need is a PSP
any one here know when the new
PSP is coming out with the built in GPS for maps and charts.

Thx,

Is there any way to get katamari working. I tired Run UMD option but no good...

Edit: Is there maybe a way to get it to work in combination with the new dev hook and Dax's release?

BTW I did get GTA and Pursuit Force to work., but GTA crashes after a while No luck on my DBZ iso wich I did shrink (maybe the problem) after the dev screensit runs black
P2Baby
It's impossible,so great.I will try it later. Thanks for you great hard work!
borgamix
does this work using usb 1.1
caseyhalone
Will this work with .dax files and others? anyone have a site with a better rundown on this? seems alot of trial and error.

maybe this could be done with ipod linux, and some type of usb adapter. THAT would be nice, 60gb of isos to take with you.
Tai
Um, ok, what I don't get is how I'm supposed to run the DAXZISO from the PC. Or is it the PSP? I'm confused basically on this part;

"3. Now load up dax with the usb cable connected, windows will say found new device."

What does this mean?
Tai
Phew, finally, the game works. X_x'

unsure.gif Hi i have been using this USB Streamer and i think it is brilliant

BUT do you think there is a way to edit the PSXE homebrew application (which is the PS1 emulater for psp) so you can STREAM a PSX ISO from your pc to ure PSP???
Zeldrak
I?m having a probelm here with 2 games: Naruto Narutimate Battle, and DBZ: Shin Budokai.

the thing is that i'm using a DevHook Mod which enables USB ISOS aswell, and i have already run Bust-a-Move directly from my PC.

When i try to start Naruto or DBZ, the PSP starts the game, but after that, i can only press Home to get back, because the screens stays black all the time.... can anyone help me with this?

I have download the DAX ZISO Loader v0.62. But didn't find USBHOST.PRX file in it. Could you give me some URL where i can find that file ?
Thanks
RabidSnail
Could I possibly get the source code for this? This is really cool but not terribly useful for non-windows users at the moment, but from the looks of things it should be pretty easy to port. It would also be cool to write a rockbox plugin so you can plug the psp into your mp3 player and store all of your umds there.

11Mb/s wifi maxes out at about 1.3-4MB/s and would probably run at about 800-900 at a reasonable range as long as you had proper broadcast power and no infractions while playing. I note broadcast power because some usb wifi hookups can be inappropriately powered and not be broadcasting at full potential.

Hi, unable to get any games to work

Running 3.40 oe-a
I am able to see the iso's but when I try to load them it is just a blank screen

Will this work with usb 1.1? (older computer)

Ive searched everywhere and havent been able to answer those two questions
