At long last, a Xbox 360 Dashboard update is supposedly coming that will include background downloading! And it sounds like all that and a bag of chips.
The German website Xbox Archiv talked with Boris Schneider-Johne, Senior Product Manager of Xbox Platform and Accessories for Microsoft Germany, and he said that the dashboard update is coming around the end of May. According to Schneider, the new features will include background downloading and having multiple downloads at once.
The update will feature a download manager for 6 parallel downloads running in the background at the same time. These downloads can be running while the user is doing something else, like playing a game.
Also, the manager will do downloads sequentially, if the Xbox 360 detects there is enough bandwidth available, it will increase the download speed. If a user is playing online during a download, the downloads may be paused to guarantee no lag. And if you turn off the console during a download for whatever reason, after powering it back on, the downloads will start where they left off. A message will pop on screen when a download is complete.
He also said more cool features will be included, but he isn't willing to spoil the surprise. I can't wait!
