| “Triumph or die!” is what you’ll hear once again when you play this classic fighter and this time Street Fighter Alpha 3 gets ported to the PSP. Ask any fighting game fan what they’re favorite Street Fighter game is and they will most likely say Alpha 3. That’s because Alpha 3 is the pinnacle of Street Fighter where the best things from each game are added and everything comes together nicely. It also brought about the introduction of different fighting styles for the super combos know as “isms”. This version includes four new characters making the total number of playable characters at 40. Also included are new modes that weren’t in previous ports of the game and of course “World Tour” mode makes a return in which you have specific objectives to complete. These can include tasks such as defeating an enemy using only super combos or within a certain time limit. A simplified tag mode where you fight two against one is a nice new addition but it is a shame that a proper tag team (two-on-two) mode like in the “Vs” series of games wasn’t included. Hopefully Capcom will release Marvel Vs Capcom on the PSP or one of the variants in the near future. Unlike Darkstalkers, the transition to the PSP’s widescreen has been a good one and the game doesn’t look so stretched. The graphics look stunning on the PSP screen and there’s nothing to complain about in that department. Loading times are fairly quick and the sound doesn’t disappoint either. Unfortunately the controls aren’t as good as they should be due to the PSP’s inferior D-pad and while the analog stick can be used it’s not very useful. It’s not that the game is really hard to play it’s just that the controls aren’t as good or responsive as they should be. After a while you do get used to the controls but it’s never quite how it should be. There’s so much to do in Street Fighter Alpha 3 with the insane amount of characters and modes. Wireless gaming against friends is extremely fun and will provide hours of entertainment. Being able to play this classic game on the go is really appealing and it is an essential purchase for any fighting game fan. ![]() ![]() |
