Here is a compilation of 21 supposed arcade “treasures” for your PSP. There are a few playable games, but the whole collection screams of a cash-in on the whole retro gaming phase.

Your enjoyment will depend on your memories (good or bad) of this collection of games. Let’s see what we have here. The good: Mortal Kombat 1-3. The bad: 720, Arch Rivals, Championship Sprint, Cyberball 2072, Gauntlet, Paperboy, Rampage, Marble Madness. And the ugly: Defender, Joust, Klax, Rampart, Sinistar, Spy Hunter, Toobin', Wizard of Wor, Xenophobe, and Xybots.

I’m all for retro gaming collections and a big fan of retro games myself, but frankly, this collection blows. Apart from most games only having five seconds worth of gameplay, the actual games take an awful long time to load! It doesn’t stop there. Most of the games have terrible screen stretching and you can barely hear the audio in some of the older “treasures”. At least wireless multiplayer is supported if you want to have a slightly more entertaining time.

A good thing with this collection is the arcade perfect renditions of Mortal Kombat 1-3 which look and sound great on the PSP. However, after 10 years I don’t remember how to do any of the special moves in the game and the lack of a moves list is just disappointing. If anyone has played Mortal Kombat, you know that the game revolves completely around the special moves. And no, I can’t be bothered looking up the moves on the Internet.

Honestly, there just aren’t enough options for each game or any bonuses to speak of. A lot of the games have made a terrible transition to the PSP and there’s not enough real “treasures” to make this collection worthy of purchase. Namco Museum blows this retro collection out of the water so if you’re interested that’s the only alternative. If Midway had at least included Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and the remakes of Rampage than the whole collection might have been worth looking at. But it doesn’t, so give it a miss.
