Hey Guys,

I don't you if you guys are as sick of it as I am, but I hate it when I turn on my PSP and all I want to do is play a homebrew application, and the PSP autoloads the UMD that's in the drive. Because it is required for some applications *cough* fastloader *cough* a lot of people leave their UMD in the drive.

Personally, I didn't feel like taping down the switch in the UMD drive itself, so I decided to take my "interactive sampler disc" that isn't so interactive that came with the PSP and make it into a tool.

If you take apart the UMD and remove the accual disc itself from the casing, you can keep it casing in the drive as a dummy. That way when you are done playing things like fastloader, you can turn the PSP off and not have to worry about forgetting it being in the drive and loading some UMD game next time you power up.

Not really huge news for you guys but it may help a few of you looking for something like this.

don't do this it doesn't help or work

I removed the disc from the case, and now it just gimps up.
Totally useless. Fastloader needs a disc to spin for some reason.

Knowing absolutely nothing about it, I would guess Fast Loader loads "something" off the UMD to boot and load an ISO.
You know... fast.

I have heard from some users who tried keeping the UMD switch pressed down that it didnt work. Same thing here. Just what I heard. If this does work, great. If not, someone might want to confirm it to keep people from butchering the sampler discs.

IT DOES NOT WORK! at first i thought it could be because the drive wanted to actually hold the inner disc and spin it and that the data on the disc doesnt matter....right?????? WRONG, how i tested it was i scracted up the inner disc with a knife until it could not read data. note i didnt gouge the disc, i slightly scraped it at a 15 degree angle all over the back.no deep marks. put it back together.still didnt work. im thinking it reads the umdata.bin file or something. and the holding down the umd pin in the slot was not a method used for fast laoder. that was some other loader. it was for a different loader, wab i believe.

and you sir get the dutche of the year award!

cant you just open it up and turn it around or something..?

You people are looking into this way too much. the easiest thing to do is put the highest parental security level (level 1) on your psp (In the security options bit). Keep the password as 0000 and when you turn your psp on it will ask you for the password, if you do actually want to load the UMD you just press x (because the password is 0000 it will already be typed in for you) however if you dont want to load the UMD you just press O and it'll take you straight home. Its fast, effective and doesnt need any mods to 'little switches' or UMD cases etc.

great idea moak +++

the password thing is even more annoying. the best thing to do is use a umd movie. as soon as i starts press home and continue what you were doing.

no no no, i think moaksey is correct wink.gif

Just put your PSP into sleep mode, it uses virtually no power at all. Hey Presto.
Chouonsoku
Yes, sleep mode does use power. moakesy's idea works fine, i'm using it myself now. Thanks for the tip.
haredx
When I put my psp into standby mode while playing a game using fastloader the game doesnt continue when I turn it back on. It freezes and then after 10 seconds or so the PSP restarts this happens with all games I have tried and on the newest version of FL
ThugStyle
I thought PSP had an option not to auto boot UMDs...
Chouonsoku
No it doesn't. And haredx, you can't use sleep mode with the fast loader because of the way it runs the games.

No, you can't do that becuase there's a metal hub attached to the disc itself, it would ruin the drive if you tried it... (I guess you could try to remove and re-attach the hub, but it still wouldn't work as the PSP actually has to recognize the UMD).

I don't like the parantal password thing becuase it starting coming whenever I tried to do other things, like load any game or something (I forget now, it's been too long). Personally, when I forget there's a disc in there and I see the white PSP screen, I just pop the disc out (gently). The psp just fails the load and goes back to the dash.

i just open the drive 'before' i switch my psp on if i want to boot into the sony home gui.. (cuz it takes you there wihtout a umd present every time) but then again i dont really seem to ever forget 'what' state i leave my psp in when i switch it off...
