I really think that the UMD's will last pretty long due to the drop in prices. The most expensive UMD the is will be around $20.00 if you know where to look. U can find them for these prices at your local Target or Amazon.

I think it will stay as long as the PSP, The UMD dose not have Enough space for DVD extras anyways blue ray discs are going to be the next big thing after DVD, more space so higher quality videos

Im going to say 6 months becasue I don't see alot of people buying a movie that can only be played on there psp now if they were playable in a regular DVD player as well they would probably stay around a good while.

I say a year max becuase people are going o start finding out its dumb to spend 20 bucks for something you can only watch on a small psp screen apposed to a big tv or computer

Im thinking the Lifespan of the psp and the UMD should be the same because however the long the psp survives the UMD should survive.
Just an opinion.

Yeah after the PSP is gone, I think UMDs will kind of disappear. BUT, there is also the fact that their could be portable UMD players instead of DVD players... but that would be kind of pointless other then the fact that it may be cheaper then a portable DVD player... but then you also have to consider that their may be some new major form of media in a few years that surpasses even DVD. Too many things to take into acount for to determine the life span of the UMD disc.

I reckon if the sony wants the umd to stay around for as long as possible, sony has to make the price go down

I have to agree with the statement that there is not much point to getting something that will only play on psp. I have imtoo mpeg converter, and I am keeping my dvds because I can convert to mp4 and still have the dvds to watch on tv. not to mention dvds are cheaper.

i dont know but i think it will be not verry long. The makers of movies dont like the umd format anymore because of the low sell.

Mar 21 2006, 03:33 AM
It will last as long as the PSP... maybe when it gets old it'll be like us reminisce about the ol school gameboy and keeping the umds. But with all these movie download services and mem. sticks, drives, whatever... the umd will probably be old news.

Mar 24 2006, 02:59 PM
i think they are meant to be PORTABLE. small. cheap. so they will last as long as people are still using the psp in places other than there living rooms.

Mar 25 2006, 03:18 AM
it's still kinda cool tho. and it doesn't scratch as easily as cds/dvds. physically i think it will last.

I think it is making a slow start, when the prices drop it will gain buyers. I mean, I will buy more when the prices are lower.

It seems many users, blaim the lack of sales of the UMD disk on the cost. In my opinion thats not the case, they have to be competitive. UMD's are still quite new compared to older formats, people are still paying for UMD's- which means Sony is still making a good enough profit for the price to stay the same. Its simple if you do not like the format dont buy them.

I think there will be new UMD movies coming out for the foreseeable future, but much less than there has been, maybe more like just the main action movies.

They won't last, Cost to much, No special features.
If I was going to by a Movie, it would be DVD; I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a UMD just because I’m going for a holiday.
I'd rather spend the cash on some Bourbon!
Have a nice cool drink whilst fishing! Not watch some movie and get shitty when the sun glares on to the screen.

UMD Movies wont last very long because lots of people are downloading from illegal website and converting them to mp4 to watch them on their psp's...
