Because I already have a movie in mp4 format, but I want to improve the quality, so I want to convert it to avi then back to mp4 in a better quality. And I do this because I don't know of any program that lets you improve the quality of a movie already in mp4 format.

If it's already bad quality, converting back to AVI will not help at all. You have to go back to the original and convert it to MP4 again.
